What Glasgow 2026 Taught Us, and Where Monumont Goes Next
Eighteen months on a home Games either confirms how you work or changes it. For us it did both.
Now Glasgow 2026 has closed, this is what we took from it — and what we're building next.
Long relationships make better work than good briefs do
The clearest lesson of the whole period. The strongest work we delivered came from the accounts we'd been on longest, and it wasn't because those briefs were better written.
By month twelve we knew the organisation, the constraints, the approval chain and the audience well enough to make decisions on a shoot day that a newly-appointed crew couldn't. That knowledge doesn't transfer in a document. It's built.
Thinking and making shouldn't be in different buildings
The industry standard splits them — someone decides what should be made, someone else is hired to make it, and the brief is the handover document.
We work the other way round. We direct, shoot, edit, grade and fly in-house, which means the person who framed a shot is the person cutting and grading it. Nothing gets lost explaining intent to someone who wasn't there, and a story found at eleven in the morning can still be in the finished film.
That's the studio we're continuing to build: production-led, but involved from the point where the idea is still being decided.
Every format, one team
Across Glasgow 2026 we delivered long-form documentary, campaign film, short-form and vertical, stills, retail photography, live event coverage and aerial — for two clients, often in the same week.
That range isn't a services list. It's the reason the work sat together, and it's the reason we could serve four outputs from one block of athlete time. We're building on it rather than specialising away from it.
sport landscape is changing
The next step, and the one we're most invested in.
glasgow 2026 was innovative in so many ways, but there is no doubt that sport content and the way it’s delivered is CHANGING drastically. monumont studios was founded on thsi very idea. over the next 12 months our studio will be aiming to reinvent and grow with the ever changing landscape and speed of the sport content world.
What that means for people we work with
None of this changes what happens on a shoot day. It changes what we bring to the conversation before it.
If you're a rights holder, a governing body, a club or a brand in sport, the useful thing to know is that we're set up to work across a season or a cycle rather than a single deliverable — and that we'd rather be in the room while you're deciding what to make than receive the brief once it's finished.
Thank you
To the Glasgow 2026 Organising Committee and Team Scotland for eighteen months we'll be proud of for a long time. To the sponsors who trusted us with their activation And to everyone in Scottish sport who made a home Games what it was.
Now we'd like to do it again — somewhere else, for someone else.
