Team Scotland × Adidas

Client: Team Scotland (Commonwealth Games Scotland)

Project: Retail photography — premium Adidas range

When Team Scotland launched its premium Adidas range ahead of Glasgow 2026, the brief was clear about what it didn't want. No more press shots. No athletes stood square to camera in front of a step-and-repeat. The range needed imagery that could sit alongside the lifestyle and streetwear campaigns Adidas is known for — confident, editorial, urban — while keeping the pride of Team Scotland at its centre.

That tension is exactly the kind of problem we like solving.

The Location Did Half the Storytelling

Glasgow gave us the answer before we picked up a camera. The new Glasgow 2026 murals beside SWG3 — iconic Team Scotland athletes and moments rendered huge in graffiti, Sir Chris Hoy among them — are Scottish sporting heritage painted in a street medium. That's the brief in a single image: national identity meeting urban culture, sharing a wall rather than competing for one.

So we built the shoot around them. Athletes weren't posed in front of the murals as a backdrop; they were shot within them — framed against painted history in the kit they'll wear to make more of it. Heritage and street culture in the same frame, doing the work together.

Editorial, Not Press

Moving away from traditional sportswear photography is a lighting and posture decision as much as a location one. We ran a hybrid approach: available light layered with a single off-camera source for the punchy, editorial-streetwear look — hard shadows, saturated product colour, confident stance — then clean natural light for the softer lifestyle frames the range needed for retail and social.

The shot system covered the full commercial spread: hero campaign frames of individuals and small groups, three-quarter product shots, tight detail work on Team Scotland branding and Adidas construction, and candid in-between moments that give a campaign its pulse. Every frame was built to be usable — e-commerce, social, marketing, partner channels — without ever looking like it was built for a spec sheet.

Delivered at Pace

The timeline was tight, and we were upfront about what was deliverable within it — then delivered it. One shoot day at SWG3 with three Team Scotland athletes, full edit and grade turned around inside forty-eight hours, with the complete edited library live and usable ahead of launch.

That pace is only possible when one team owns the whole pipeline. Direction, camera, edit and grade all sat with Monumont, which meant every decision on the day was made with the final image already in mind.

Why It Worked

The best sports imagery doesn't choose between pride and style. This shoot proved you can have an athlete in national colours, framed by painted legends of their own sport, in an image that would hold its own on any streetwear brand's feed. Team Scotland got a retail campaign that looks forward instead of backwards — and a set of images built to work everywhere the range sells.
